This is a lovely Sterling Silver presentation bowl, given to the person who officially "launched" the submarine U. S. S. Thornback on July 7th, 1944. As was the custom, a lady was given the honor of breaking a bottle of Champagne over the bow of the new vessel being launched, and in this case Rachel E. Fischler was accorded that honor. The entire dedication listed on the inside of the bowl is as follows: U. S. SUBMARINE
